Maruti Suzuki India Limited reported a strong rise in production for March 2026, with total output reaching 231,933 units, marking a significant increase from 194,901 units in the same month last year.
The growth was largely fueled by robust demand in the utility vehicle segment, alongside steady performance in compact cars. Passenger vehicle production stood at 227,942 units, up from 191,180 units in March 2025.
The mini and compact segments—comprising popular models like Alto, S-Presso, Swift, WagonR, and Dzire—continued to form the backbone of production. Combined output in this category rose to 112,283 units, compared to 105,769 units a year ago. Within this, compact cars alone contributed 92,421 units, reflecting stable consumer demand in the entry and mid-level hatchback space.
However, the mid-size sedan segment saw a decline, with no production recorded for the Ciaz in March 2026, compared to 1,498 units in the previous year, indicating shifting market preferences away from sedans.
The standout performer for the month was the utility vehicle segment. Production surged to 102,622 units, a sharp jump from 72,158 units in March 2025. Models such as Brezza, Ertiga, Fronx, Jimny, and XL6 drove this growth, highlighting the increasing popularity of SUVs and multi-utility vehicles among Indian consumers.
Van production, led by the Eeco, also witnessed a moderate rise to 13,037 units from 11,755 units last year.
In the light commercial vehicle category, the Super Carry recorded production of 3,991 units, slightly higher than 3,721 units in March 2025.
Overall, the data reflects Maruti Suzuki’s strategic alignment with evolving market trends, particularly the growing demand for SUVs and utility vehicles. The company’s diversified portfolio and strong manufacturing capabilities have enabled it to maintain production momentum despite changing consumer preferences.
With continued focus on high-demand segments and new model introductions, Maruti Suzuki is expected to sustain its growth trajectory in the coming months.
