EnergyHub, a leading provider of grid-edge flexibility solutions, has announced the acquisition of Bridge to Renewables (BTR) in a move aimed at accelerating the growth of utility electric vehicle (EV) programs across North America.

The acquisition strengthens EnergyHub’s partnerships with top EV original equipment manufacturers (OEMs), expands access to foundational integrations, and enhances EV driver experiences within managed charging programs. EnergyHub currently provides Virtual Power Plant (VPP) technology to more than 80 utilities, managing over 120 programs that integrate EVs, connected thermostats, batteries, and other distributed energy resources (DERs).

BTR, known for its telematics-based EV solutions, works with 12 leading EV manufacturers and enables more than 500,000 connected vehicles to participate in low carbon fuel standard programs. Its platform also supports managed charging initiatives through embeddable mobile app features that simplify driver enrollment and engagement.

According to EnergyHub, the acquisition will deliver several benefits, including faster expansion of utilities’ managed charging programs, streamlined access for OEMs to new opportunities, and enhanced customer experiences for EV drivers. By leveraging BTR’s integrations, utilities will be able to bring OEMs into their managed charging programs more efficiently, while EV drivers will gain access to cost- and emissions-optimized charging options through their OEM’s mobile applications.

Commenting on the deal, Seth Frader-Thompson, President of EnergyHub, said: “By acquiring BTR, we are accelerating our delivery of transformative grid value and an exceptional customer experience – built on an industry-leading foundation of EV data, seamless integrations, and VPP expertise.”

Jack Barrow, co-founder and Chief Executive Officer of BTR, added: “EnergyHub is the ideal partner to bring the benefits of our combined platforms to our OEM partners and millions of EV drivers. With EnergyHub’s reach across more than 80 utilities and proven capabilities across device classes, this combination will catalyze the next phase of growth and innovation in the EV managed charging ecosystem.”

As electricity demand continues to climb, EnergyHub said the acquisition significantly enhances its ability to integrate EVs alongside other DERs into cross-resource VPPs that deliver value to utilities, OEMs, and customers alike.
