As Ford closes applications for the first two years of Mustang GTD production, the company is gearing up to introduce its most advanced Mustang yet to Europe. The Mustang GTD will make its European debut at the 24 Hours of Le Mans, followed by extensive road testing in preparation for an official timed run at the Nürburgring Nordschleife in the fourth quarter of 2024.
“We’ve tested the Mustang GTD in North America extensively, including laps at Sebring International Raceway and Virginia International Raceway. This has all been in service of engineering a car that can lap the Nurburgring in under seven minutes,” said Mustang GTD Chief Program Engineer Greg Goodall. “Moving onto European roads and dedicated test sessions at the Nurburgring is the next step, ahead of a timed run later this year.”
Extensive Testing and European Tour
Following its debut at Le Mans, the Mustang GTD will make appearances at the 24 Hours of Spa and the Goodwood Festival of Speed. This tour aims to solidify the GTD’s position as a formidable competitor against Europe’s finest supercars.
Innovative Online Storytelling Series
Alongside its European launch, Ford will introduce a new online storytelling series. This series will highlight the engineering marvels of the Mustang GTD, featuring life-like computer-generated renderings of its cutting-edge suspension and supercharged V8 engine, which targets over 800 horsepower. Fans can follow the series on Ford’s social media channels and the Mustang GTD page on Ford.com for the latest updates and information.
European Market Introduction
With the application window for North American consumers closing on May 21 and receiving over 7,500 applications, Ford is now turning its attention to the European market. European consumers will soon have the opportunity to apply for the Mustang GTD, with details to be announced in June.
“Mustang GTD is designed to be a road-going race car with the heart of a Mustang and the will to beat Europe’s best. The response from North American customers has been incredible,” said Mustang GTD Brand Manager Jim Owens. “Whether they own a rival’s sports car or another Mustang, the GTD’s race-derived performance is resonating.”
The Mustang GTD’s impending arrival in Europe marks a significant step in Ford’s global strategy to compete with the world’s top performance vehicles.
