In a collaborative effort to enhance road safety and promote tourism, the Toyota Mobility Foundation (TMF) has announced the launch of the “Okinawa Yuimaru Project.” Since formalizing a collaboration agreement with the Okinawa Prefectural Police Headquarters in February of the previous year, TMF, in conjunction with various partners from industry, government, and academia, has been diligently analyzing police accident data, vehicle data, and in-vehicle app data.

The initiative, which involves TOYOTA Rent a Car Okinawa, Yazaki Corporation, JTB Corporation, Toyota Motor Corporation, the University of the Ryukyus, and The School of Engineering at The University of Tokyo, represents a comprehensive approach to addressing regional challenges. By pooling and analyzing data sets, the project aims to identify dangerous locations, investigate accident causes, formulate effective countermeasures, and assess their impact on accident prevention.

Moreover, efforts to mitigate rental car accidents, foster tourism, and alleviate traffic congestion through the utilization of in-vehicle apps have yielded promising results, contributing to the overall objectives of the project.

Under the banner of “Okinawa Yuimaru Project,” which translates to “working together” and “mutual assistance” in the Okinawan language, TMF intends to further advance this initiative. By leveraging the collaborative spirit embodied in its name, the project seeks to address regional issues comprehensively, with a particular focus on reducing traffic accidents and promoting tourism.

As TMF continues to spearhead efforts towards regional safety and prosperity in Okinawa, the “Okinawa Yuimaru Project” stands as a testament to the power of collaboration across sectors. With a commitment to innovation and community engagement, TMF endeavors to make meaningful strides towards a safer and more vibrant Okinawa.
