Two years after the rollout of the Electric Vehicle (EV) policy in Chandigarh, Administrator Banwarilal Purohit assured that all 53 electric charging stations at 32 locations in the Union Territory would be operational by the end of March.
The establishment of the charging infrastructure under the Municipal Corporation is the responsibility of the Chandigarh Renewable Energy and Science and Technology Promotion Society (CREST).
Despite the announcement of the EV policy in September 2022, the required infrastructure was not in place, leading to non-functional charging stations.
The UT administration had temporarily restricted the registration of fuel-based vehicles but faced protests and criticism for not providing adequate charging infrastructure for EVs.
Purohit’s recent assurance comes in response to reports of inconvenience faced by people due to the lack of operational charging stations.
