VinFast, Vietnam’s prominent electric vehicle manufacturer, has inaugurated its inaugural integrated electric vehicle (EV) manufacturing plant in Tamil Nadu, India. This significant initiative, set to generate job opportunities for approximately 3,500 local workers, underscores VinFast’s commitment to global sustainability and its robust presence in the green transportation sector.
The groundbreaking ceremony was graced by esteemed dignitaries including Thiru M. K. Stalin, Honorable Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu, and Thiru Dr. T. R. B. Rajaa, Honorable Minister for Industries, Government of Tamil Nadu, among others.
Spanning 400 acres within the State Industries Promotion Corporation of Tamil Nadu (SIPCOT) industrial estate, the EV facility represents an initial investment of $500 million over 5 years, with a projected capacity of 150,000 vehicles annually. This substantial investment is expected to create employment opportunities for 3,000 to 3,500 local residents. VinFast aims to bolster local economic growth through partnerships with leading suppliers and a focus on localization.
Mr. Pham Sanh Chau, CEO of VinFast India, highlighted the significance of the milestone, emphasizing VinFast’s commitment to sustainable mobility and strategic partnerships. The project marks a pivotal step towards a zero-emission transportation future, strengthening ties between Vietnam and India and fostering economic growth and environmental sustainability.
Honorable Minister Dr. T. R. B. Rajaa expressed confidence in Tamil Nadu’s role as a global automotive hub and lauded VinFast’s entry into India as a testament to the state’s progressive industrial policies. The project is poised to contribute significantly to local economic advancement, job creation, and skill development.
India holds strategic importance in VinFast’s global expansion strategy, with the project complementing existing manufacturing facilities in Vietnam and upcoming plants in the U.S. and Indonesia. In addition to manufacturing, VinFast plans to establish a nationwide dealership network to enhance brand presence and connect with customers across India.
