Clean Air Punjab, a coalition dedicated to tackling air quality issues in the state, has written to Union Minister of Housing and Urban Affairs, Hardeep Singh Puri, urging swift approval of the pink electric auto policy for women as part of the Rejuvenation of Auto-Rickshaw in Amritsar through Holistic Intervention (RAAHI) project.

Stressing the importance of electric vehicles (EVs) in achieving net-zero emissions by 2070, Clean Air Punjab emphasized the need to integrate women into the transportation workforce.

Punjab distinguishes itself as one of the states proactively tackling gender inequality by including women auto drivers in the RAAHI scheme. The scheme offers a substantial 90% subsidy on electric autos, promoting economic empowerment and environmental stewardship.

At a recent event attended by 250 women in Amritsar, there was enthusiasm among participants to adopt electric autos with the necessary support.

Indu Aurora, President-elect of Voice of Amritsar, highlighted the urgency of reducing emissions for public health, especially among vulnerable demographics.

Shweta Mehra from Clean Air Punjab stressed the principle of equal opportunity in women’s empowerment, noting positive engagement from policymakers and women during the Gender-Responsive E3W Transition gathering in Amritsar.
