During the Vibrant Gujarat Global Summit 2024, currently convened under the auspices of the Honourable Prime Minister, Shri Narendra Modi, Mr. Toshihiro Suzuki, the President of Suzuki Motor Corporation (SMC), announced two significant investments in the state of Gujarat.
In the first development, Maruti Suzuki India Ltd has reached an understanding with the State of Gujarat to construct a new automobile production plant. The anticipated operational commencement for this new plant in Gujarat is in FY2028-29. The projected annual production capacity is set to reach 1 million units, with a total investment of 350 billion rupees (excluding land acquisition costs). Further details regarding the location and models to be produced will be shared in due course.
Additionally, Maruti Suzuki revealed its plans to establish a fourth production line in its wholly-owned subsidiary, Suzuki Motor Gujarat Private Limited (SMG), through an investment of 32 billion rupees. This strategic move is in response to the increasing production of electric vehicles anticipated in the future. The fourth line is expected to commence operations from FY2026-27. Upon completion, the annual production capacity of SMG will rise from the current 750,000 units to 1 million units. Combining this expansion with the new plant in Gujarat, the total annual production capacity in the State of Gujarat will reach 2 million units.
Maruti Suzuki aims to secure a production capacity of approximately 4 million units in India by FY2030-31, preparing for the anticipated expansion of the automobile market in the country. The upcoming new plant in Kharkhoda, Haryana (planned to start operations in 2025), the newly announced plant in Gujarat, and the fourth production line at SMG collectively contribute to achieving the milestone of 4 million units.
Addressing the audience at the Vibrant Gujarat Global Summit, Mr. Toshihiro Suzuki stated, “In this ever-growing country, we will provide a variety of sustainable mobility options by focusing on Indian customers.”
