Tata Power and Indian Oil Corporation Team Up to Install Over 500 Rapid and Ultra-Fast Electric Vehicle Charging Stations Nationwide in India

Tata Power EV Charging Solutions Limited (TPEVCSL), a key player in EV charging solutions and part of the Tata Power Group, has joined hands with Indian Oil Corporation Limited (IOCL) to initiate a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU). The agreement aims to introduce fast and ultra-fast electric vehicle (EV) charging points extensively throughout India. This collaboration will witness Tata Power installing over 500 EV charging points at various IOCL retail outlets across the nation.

The strategic placement of these EV charging stations will primarily target major cities like Mumbai, Delhi, Kolkata, Bengaluru, Ahmedabad, Pune, and Kochi. Moreover, these stations will be strategically located along significant highways such as the Mumbai-Pune Expressway, Salem-Kochi Highway, Guntur-Chennai Highway, and the Golden Quadrilateral. The focus lies on establishing a robust intercity charging network to alleviate range anxiety among EV owners commuting between cities.

Virendra Goyal, Head of Business Development-EV Charging at Tata Power, highlighted, “Our collaboration with IOCL marks a strategic milestone in fortifying the EV charging infrastructure in the nation. Leveraging IOCL’s extensive network, Tata Power aims to establish fast and superfast charging points across multiple regions, contributing significantly to accessibility and inclusivity for a sustainable electric mobility future.”

Tata Power is deeply committed to elevating the EV user experience through technological integration and innovative solutions. EV users will benefit from a seamless charging experience facilitated by the ‘Tata Power EZ Charge’ app and the ‘IndianOil e-Charge’ mobile app, enabling them to locate and book chargers conveniently.

Representing IOCL, Saumitra Shrivastava, Executive Director (Retail-N&E), reaffirmed the Corporation’s dedication to adapting to the escalating trend of electric vehicle integration. “IOCL envisions deploying 10,000 EV Charging Stations by 2024, transforming retail networks into comprehensive energy solutions outlets. With over 6,000 operational EV charging stations presently, the company aims for continuous expansion. Our partnership with Tata Power holds a crucial role in responding to this transformative shift, propelling us toward a more sustainable and eco-friendly mobility paradigm.”

The MoU signing ceremony witnessed the presence of K Navin Charan, Chief General Manager, Retail Transformation, IOCL; Soumitra Chakraborty, Chief General Manager, Marketing Strategy, IOCL, and Virendra Goyal, Head of Business Development – EV Charging, Tata Power, along with officials from both organizations.

Tata Power has solidified its position as a leader in the electric vehicle charging sector, commanding a substantial market share of nearly 60%. Their expansive nationwide network spans across more than 420 cities, offering a comprehensive range of charging solutions including over 62,000 home chargers, 4,900 public and semi-public charging points, and 430 bus charging stations. Significantly, this network is continuously expanding, underlining Tata Power’s steadfast dedication to enhancing electric vehicle charging accessibility nationwide.
