The Nashik Municipal Corporation (NMC) has now ordered all the new residential buildings which have at least 25 flats to set up EV charging stations. For additional 25 flats, there must be two EV charging stations which means if a building has 50 flats or more, it must have two EV charging stations.

Kailas Jadhav, NMC commissioner has already given an order to town planning department to only approve building plan proposals which have provisions for charging stations with immediate effect. The existing buildings which need to take building completion certificate (BCC) from the municipal corporation, will need to set up charging stations too. This step has been taken to promote the use of electric vehicles in the city.

Nilesh Chavan, a senior architect and project management consultant, said, “The use of electric vehicles is gradually increasing. Electric vehicles will be a necessity in the future and EV charging stations at the residential buildings will help people charge their vehicles at the parking area. They will not need not go outside to charge their vehicles.”

“At the same time, billing metres should be made mandatory at the EV charging stations at residential buildings, so that those who charge their vehicles can pay the amount,” he added.

Earlier, only 8-storey building was permitted with the height of 24 metre which was increased to 13-storey building with 40 metre height. Now, a new plan is being structured where the height can go up to 100 metre (25 to 100 flats) which depends on the height of the ladder which the fire brigade department of NMC has.
