Dana, a pioneer in the high-voltage electrification sector and an American auto component manufacturer, has stated that India provides enormous prospects for the company in the EV market and that it will continue to expand in all of its sites based on demand.
Dana’s country head-India, Gajanan Gandhe said that the company sees immense opportunities in the high-voltage market amidst which the firm has increased investment in electrification and aims for enhancing localization to as much as 60-70%.
It will help the company maintain its lead in meeting all of India’s standards, especially after the launch of the PLI programme, which compels companies to localize and spend up to a specific level, which Dana is doing, Gandhe added.
He expressed optimism about the growth of electrification, particularly in last-mile mobility, saying that even on the low-voltage side, where Dana provides components to two or three-wheelers and small commercial vehicle makers, he sees prospects.
“We expect that switch begins to win businesses in India, and we will be tagging along with them for most of the things that we can supply to them,” he added.
Dana sees electrification as a significant opportunity for itself because of its strong lead, technology, and localization expertise, besides the local skill force, to assist the creation of solutions for its clients.
He also stated that the company is clear about the areas it wants to invest in, based on variables such as largest demand growth opportunity, competitive advantage in terms of technology or operations, and technical expertise.
“So, we continue to invest in all of these sites where we believe there is a stronger demand and where we have a good competitive edge,” Gandhe said.
Previously this year, the business made a minority investment in Switch Mobility to collaborate on electric vehicle (EV) drivetrain development with Ashok Leyland’s electric commercial vehicle unit.
Dana has 18 locations in India, including joint ventures and a new specialized EV drivetrain production facility in Pune.
The firm is a leading company in drivetrain, driveshafts, e-propulsion systems, and axles, transmissions, as well as electrodynamic, sealing, thermal and digital equipment for conventional, hybrid, and electric automobiles.
