MG (Morris Garages), a renowned British automotive brand boasting a century-old heritage, has announced the successful deployment of 500 chargers within 500 days as part of its MG Charge initiative in India. This initiative aims to establish a sustainable and easily accessible electric vehicle (EV) charging infrastructure nationwide. Launched in mid-2022, the MG Charge initiative is dedicated to installing 1,000 charging points within 1,000 days, targeting apartments, condominiums, and residential societies to facilitate convenient charging for residents and visitors.

Gaurav Gupta, Chief Growth Officer at MG Motor India, expressed the company’s commitment to not only providing advanced electric vehicles but also creating a robust EV ecosystem. The milestone of installing 500 chargers in as many days highlights MG Charge’s vision of enhancing the overall EV ownership experience for a sustainable future.

MG Motor India, in collaboration with its ecosystem partners – including Exicom Telesystems, ElectreeFi, EchargerBays, Ionage, Statiq, and Highway Delite – strategically deployed 7.4kW chargers, averaging one installation per day across approximately 50 major cities. This achievement demonstrates the carmaker’s steadfast dedication to accelerating the adoption of green mobility by establishing a comprehensive EV infrastructure in the country.

MG’s EV commitment extends beyond charging infrastructure. The company has set up over 15,000 charging touchpoints nationwide, including public and home chargers, and collaborates with partners for battery recycling, reuse, and life extension. MG Motor India’s recent partnership with the Shoonya – Zero Pollution Mobility campaign, led by NITI Aayog, further underscores its dedication to promoting electric vehicles.

In addition to infrastructure development, MG Motor India focuses on skilling and upskilling initiatives to address talent gaps in the electric mobility sector. The company also emphasizes green manufacturing practices, with 50% of manufacturing energy sourced from renewables. As a result, CO2 emissions have decreased by 36%, with projections estimating a reduction of 11,889 MT by the end of 2024. Today, MG Motor India ranks as the second-largest EV seller, with over 25,000 units of its EV models – ZS and Comet – sold, constituting 25-30% of the company’s total sales.
