GreenLine Mobility Solutions Ltd., an Essar venture and India’s leading operator of LNG- and electric-powered heavy commercial vehicles, has expanded its partnership with Tata Steel by deploying LNG-powered trucks at Tata Steel’s Meramandali facility in Odisha.

The flag-off ceremony marks another milestone in the companies’ ongoing efforts to decarbonise long-haul road logistics across India. The initiative reflects their shared commitment to promoting cleaner fuel alternatives and reducing carbon emissions in large-scale freight transportation.

GreenLine currently operates more than 1,000 LNG- and EV-powered trucks on major freight corridors nationwide, catering to industries such as steel, cement, mining, FMCG, and chemicals. The company stated that its fleet has already covered over 90 million kilometres, helping reduce more than 24,000 tonnes of carbon dioxide emissions.

As part of its long-term expansion strategy, GreenLine plans to deploy over 10,000 LNG and electric trucks across the country. The company also aims to establish a nationwide infrastructure network comprising 100 LNG refuelling stations, EV charging hubs, and battery-swapping facilities. Through these initiatives, GreenLine targets an annual reduction of one million tonnes of carbon emissions.

Speaking on the development, Madhur Taneja, CEO of GreenLine Mobility Solutions Ltd., said the partnership with Tata Steel highlights the growing importance of cleaner transport solutions in India’s logistics sector.

“With growing concerns around fuel dependence and energy security, LNG is increasingly emerging as a practical and scalable alternative for long-haul logistics in India. The transition towards greener logistics will accelerate meaningfully as more industries adopt cleaner transportation solutions at scale,” he said.

Prabhat Kumar, Vice President, Supply Chain, Tata Steel, acknowledged the role of partnerships in achieving sustainability goals.

“If Tata Steel decides that we want to green our vehicles and our logistics, it will not happen unless we have support and coordination from our partners, like GreenLine. I’d like to thank them for their contribution,” he said.

According to the company, GreenLine’s LNG-powered trucks can travel up to 1,200 kilometres on a single fill and up to 2,400 kilometres with dual tanks. Compared to conventional diesel trucks, LNG vehicles can reduce carbon dioxide emissions by up to 40 per cent while also significantly lowering particulate matter, sulphur oxides, nitrogen oxides, and carbon monoxide emissions.
