Volvo Trucks has announced a significant order for 400 units of its all-new Volvo VNL trucks from TEL, marking one of the largest single orders for the model in North America to date.
TEL, one of the largest fleet leasing companies in the United States, will add 400 Volvo VNL 860 sleeper trucks to its leasing program. The move reflects a broader trend among transport operators to modernize fleets with a focus on improved fuel efficiency, enhanced safety, and better driver comfort.
Peter Voorhoeve, President of Volvo Trucks North America, said the order underscores growing confidence in the company’s flagship long-haul platform. He highlighted that within a year of production, the VNL has demonstrated strong real-world performance across key parameters such as fuel economy, safety, and uptime.
The all-new Volvo VNL, which entered production in late 2024 at the company’s Dublin, Virginia facility, is designed to deliver up to 10% better fuel efficiency compared to its predecessor. This improvement has been achieved through advanced aerodynamic design and refined powertrain technologies.
Currently, around 15,000 Volvo VNL trucks are in operation across the United States and Canada, indicating a steady market uptake. The addition of TEL’s fleet is expected to further strengthen Volvo’s presence in the competitive North American heavy-duty truck segment.
The VNL model has also gained industry recognition, winning the prestigious Red Dot Design Award in 2025 for its product design in the commercial vehicles category.
Volvo Trucks operates a global network of approximately 2,200 service points across 130 countries and delivered around 134,000 trucks worldwide in 2024. The company continues to focus on delivering transport solutions built on its core values of quality, safety, and environmental care.
The latest order not only reinforces Volvo Trucks’ position in the long-haul trucking market but also signals increasing demand for technologically advanced and driver-centric heavy-duty vehicles in North America.
