Vikram Solar Limited, through its wholly owned subsidiary VSL PowerHive Private Limited, has launched ‘VION’, a new lithium-ion battery platform designed to accelerate the growth of electric mobility and distributed energy storage solutions.
The launch marks the company’s strategic expansion beyond solar manufacturing into advanced battery technologies aimed at supporting India’s rapidly evolving electric vehicle ecosystem while also addressing energy storage needs for residential and commercial applications.
Lithium Battery Solutions for Electric Mobility
A key highlight of the VION portfolio is its lithium battery system designed for electric rickshaws, a segment that plays an important role in India’s last-mile electric mobility market. The 5 kWh lithium battery is built using LiFePO4 prismatic cells and complies with AIS-156 safety standards, ensuring high levels of safety, durability, and reliability for commercial EV operations.
The battery is engineered to withstand intensive daily operating cycles typically associated with electric three-wheelers and is backed by a 36-month warranty, making it suitable for the demanding conditions of urban mobility and fleet operations.
Expanding Battery Solutions Beyond Mobility
While the electric mobility segment is a key focus area, the VION platform also includes a range of lithium battery solutions for home power backup and solar energy storage.
The portfolio includes five commercial products across inverter batteries, integrated inverter-battery systems, and EV batteries. Residential battery solutions range from 1.2 kWh to 15 kWh, providing flexible backup options for households and small businesses.
The batteries are designed to deliver up to 3,000 charge cycles, achieve efficiency levels of up to 97%, and operate with minimal maintenance. Compared with conventional battery systems, the lithium batteries are significantly lighter and capable of faster charging, making them well suited for both stationary and mobility applications.
Integrated Battery and Inverter System
The company has also introduced PowerStack 1.0, an integrated inverter and battery system designed to simplify residential energy backup installations. The compact 1.2 kWh system integrates the inverter and battery in a single unit and is available in both wall-mounted and tabletop configurations, offering convenient deployment in homes and small offices.
Strengthening India’s Energy Storage Ecosystem
Commenting on the launch, Gyanesh Chaudhary, Chairman and Managing Director of Vikram Solar, said energy storage technologies will play a critical role in enabling the next phase of the clean energy transition.
He noted that the introduction of the VION battery platform represents a significant milestone in the company’s transformation from a solar manufacturer into a provider of integrated clean energy and storage solutions.
Arun Mittal, CEO of VSL PowerHive, highlighted that the platform has been developed to address real-world energy and mobility challenges by prioritising safety, performance, and long product life.
Scaling Battery Manufacturing Capacity
The company is also expanding its presence in the Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) market and has already secured a 100 MWh energy storage order. As part of its long-term strategy, Vikram Solar plans to establish 5 GWh of BESS manufacturing capacity by FY2027 and 7.5 GWh of battery cell manufacturing capacity by FY2029.
Through the launch of the VION platform, the company aims to strengthen India’s battery ecosystem while supporting the growing demand for electric mobility, renewable energy storage, and decentralised power solutions.
