Suzuki Motor Corporation has announced that it will acquire the all-solid-state lithium-ion battery business of Kanadevia Corporation, marking a strategic move to strengthen its capabilities in next-generation battery technologies. The acquisition is expected to take effect on July 1, 2026, subject to customary closing conditions.
According to the agreement, Suzuki will take over Kanadevia’s battery technology development, design, and sales operations related to all-solid-state lithium-ion batteries. However, the financial details of the deal, including the acquisition price, have not been disclosed. The transaction will be completed through a cash payment.
Kanadevia began developing all-solid-state lithium-ion batteries in 2006 and has built expertise in the field using its proprietary dry manufacturing process. These batteries offer significant advantages over conventional lithium-ion batteries, including higher safety due to the absence of liquid electrolytes, improved resistance to environmental conditions, and reliable operation across a wide temperature range.
The technology is particularly suited for specialized applications such as aerospace and extreme environments, including high-temperature and vacuum conditions.
Through the acquisition, Suzuki aims to inherit and further develop Kanadevia’s advanced solid-state battery technologies, supporting its long-term strategy to strengthen electrification and develop safer, more efficient energy storage systems.
The move highlights the growing importance of solid-state batteries, which are widely considered a key breakthrough for the next generation of electric vehicles due to their potential for higher energy density, improved safety, and faster charging capabilities.
