Volkswagen AG has delivered its two millionth all-electric vehicle to a customer, marking a significant milestone in the brand’s electrification journey.

The anniversary vehicle, an Volkswagen ID.3, was produced at the Zwickau plant and handed over to a customer at the Transparent Factory in Dresden earlier this week.

A Decade of Electrification

Volkswagen began its dedicated electric mobility push in 2013 with the launch of the e-up! and has since expanded its battery electric vehicle (BEV) portfolio under the ID. family. The two million BEVs delivered include both current-generation ID. models and earlier electric vehicles such as the e-up! and e-Golf.

Martin Sander, Board Member for Sales, Marketing and After Sales at Volkswagen, said the milestone demonstrates the attractiveness and competitiveness of the company’s all-electric lineup, particularly in Germany and across Europe. The brand has assumed a leading role in the European BEV market and is among the highest-volume electric vehicle manufacturers globally.

ID.3, ID.4 and ID.7 Drive Growth

Three models have been central to Volkswagen’s EV success:

  • Volkswagen ID.3 – Approximately 628,000 units delivered. As the first model based on Volkswagen’s modular electric drive matrix (MEB), the ID.3 marked the brand’s entry into a new era of electromobility in 2020.
  • Volkswagen ID.4 – Around 901,000 units delivered (including ID.5). The SUV has been a key global growth driver, particularly in Europe, China and the United States.
  • Volkswagen ID.7 – Approximately 132,000 units delivered. Launched in 2023, the ID.7 expanded the brand’s electric portfolio into the upper mid-range segment with long range and enhanced comfort.

Expanding Access with ID. Polo

Volkswagen also previewed the near-production Volkswagen ID. Polo, set to be one of four new electric models launching in 2026 within the small car and compact segments. The company aims to make electromobility more accessible and affordable for a broader customer base in high-volume segments.

Transparent Factory Focuses on Customer Experience

The delivery of the milestone vehicle took place at the Transparent Factory in Dresden, which has shifted its focus to visitor and customer experiences following the phase-out of series production at the site. Around 3,500 vehicles were handed over there last year, more than 90 percent of which were all-electric or hybrid models, making it Volkswagen’s second-largest national delivery center after Wolfsburg.

Meanwhile, the Zwickau plant continues to play a crucial role in Volkswagen’s BEV production network, with approximately 212,000 electric cars produced there in 2025.

With two million electric vehicles now delivered globally, Volkswagen is reinforcing its commitment to an all-electric future as it continues to expand its portfolio and strengthen its presence in key global markets.
