Uber Technologies Inc. has announced the launch of Uber Air powered by Joby, enabling riders to book all-electric air taxi flights directly through the Uber app, in partnership with Joby Aviation.

The service is expected to begin passenger operations later this year in Dubai, marking a major milestone in the long-standing collaboration between Uber and Joby to advance urban air mobility and integrate multi-modal transportation into everyday travel.

Under the new feature, riders will be able to enter their destination in the Uber app’s “Where to?” section. If eligible, the Uber Air option will appear alongside ground ride choices. With a single tap, users can book a seamless journey that includes Uber Black transfers to and from the vertiport, along with the electric air taxi flight.

Joby’s aircraft is designed to carry up to four passengers and will be piloted by a certified commercial pilot. The cabin features large panoramic windows and comfortable seating, offering a premium aerial travel experience above city landscapes.

The all-electric aircraft uses six tilting propellers, enabling vertical takeoff and landing before transitioning into forward flight. It can reach speeds of up to 200 miles per hour and travel approximately 100 miles on a single charge. Engineered specifically for urban integration, the aircraft incorporates multiple redundancies to enhance safety and operates at a low acoustic profile intended to blend into city soundscapes.

Before launching commercial services in the United States, the aircraft must complete certification requirements set by the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA). Joby has already completed more than 50,000 miles of flight testing and has entered the final stage of the certification process.

Uber and Joby have collaborated since 2019 in building the urban air mobility ecosystem. In 2021, Joby acquired Uber’s Elevate division, which played a foundational role in shaping the sector through market selection tools, demand simulation, and operational frameworks.

Last year, the companies also announced plans to integrate Blade’s commercial helicopter services into the Uber app in 2026, following Joby’s acquisition of Blade’s passenger business. The broader strategy aims to expand electric air taxi services globally, including in Dubai, New York, Los Angeles, the United Kingdom, and Japan.
