Volvo Cars has unveiled significant upgrades for the upcoming model year of its compact electric SUV, the Volvo EX30, introducing new entry-level powertrains, refined interior themes, expanded Black Edition options and Vehicle-to-Load (V2L) functionality.

The updates are aimed at enhancing user experience, expanding affordability and reinforcing the EX30’s position in the fast-growing premium entry-level EV segment. Several new features, including software enhancements, will also be rolled out free of charge to existing customers via over-the-air (OTA) updates.

New Powertrain Options Expand Choice

The EX30 range now includes a new 110kW (150PS) single-motor variant paired with a 51kWh battery, offering a WLTP-certified range of up to 339 km. This configuration is positioned as an accessible premium EV option for daily commuting.

For drivers requiring extended range capability, Volvo also offers a larger 69kWh battery option delivering up to 476 km (WLTP). These additions broaden the EX30 lineup, giving customers greater flexibility based on driving needs and budget.

The EX30 Cross Country variant also expands with the addition of a new Plus trim level and a more efficient single-motor alternative.

Vehicle-to-Load Turns EX30 into a Powerbank

One of the key highlights is the introduction of Vehicle-to-Load (V2L) functionality. The EX30 is now hardware-ready to support V2L, enabling the vehicle’s battery to supply power to external devices. With a dedicated adapter, drivers can charge electric bicycles or power appliances such as tools, camping equipment and sound systems.

Initially available in selected markets, the V2L feature will be activated through an OTA update planned for summer, benefiting both new and existing owners.

Improved User Experience Through Software

Volvo has redesigned the EX30’s user interface to improve accessibility and personalization. A new settings and controls system places frequently used functions within easier reach, while a customizable content bar allows predictive actions or user-prioritized shortcuts.

The enhanced UX will also be delivered via over-the-air updates, reinforcing Volvo’s strategy of continuous product improvement beyond the point of sale.

New Premium Interior Themes

The EX30 introduces two new interior “rooms”:

  • Harvest: A light-toned Scandinavian-inspired design featuring woven recycled textiles, Nordico upholstery made from recycled PET materials, dark flax décor and a black headlining.
  • Black: A deep-black interior theme combining smooth Nordico upholstery with contrasting stitching and dark natural flax décor for a timeless aesthetic.

The EX30 Black Edition is now available with the new Black interior and can be paired with exterior finishes including Onyx Black, Vapour Grey and Crystal White.

Strengthening Volvo’s Electrification Strategy

According to Volvo executives, the upgrades are designed to widen the EX30’s appeal and support the company’s broader electrification ambitions. As premium entry-level electric vehicles continue to gain traction globally, the refreshed EX30 is expected to drive further growth and attract new customers to full electric mobility.

Range figures are based on WLTP testing standards, and actual driving range may vary depending on environmental and usage conditions.
