Suzuki Motor Corporation has officially launched its first battery electric vehicle (BEV), the e VITARA, in India, marking a major milestone in the company’s global electrification strategy. Sales of the electric SUV began through its Indian subsidiary Maruti Suzuki India Limited.
The e VITARA has been developed under the concept of “Emotional Versatile Cruiser,” combining advanced technology, robust design, and a sharp, responsive driving experience. The electric SUV is built on Suzuki’s newly developed HEARTECT-e platform, specifically designed for battery electric vehicles.
As part of its India-focused BEV strategy “e for me,” Maruti Suzuki is strengthening its electric vehicle ecosystem to boost customer confidence. The company has already installed over 2,000 exclusive charging points across more than 1,100 cities. By 2030, Maruti Suzuki aims to expand this network to over 100,000 charging points across the country in partnership with dealers and Charge Point Operators.
To enhance convenience for EV users, Maruti Suzuki has introduced the “e for me” mobile application, which allows customers to locate charging stations and monitor their vehicle’s charging status in real time. The company has also set up 1,500 BEV-ready service workshops across India, supported by mobile service vehicles, to ensure reliable maintenance and repair services.
The e VITARA is being manufactured at Maruti Suzuki’s Hansalpur plant in Gujarat and is positioned as Suzuki’s first global strategic BEV model. The vehicle has already been launched in Europe and Japan and will be exported to over 100 countries and regions worldwide.
Suzuki’s entry into the Indian electric SUV segment reflects the company’s broader push toward electrification and sustainable mobility, as India continues to emerge as a key market for global EV manufacturers.
