LG Energy Solution’s NextStar Energy Hits One Million Battery Cells, Strengthens Canada’s EV and ESS Manufacturing Push

NextStar Energy, a joint venture backed by LG Energy Solution, announced a major production milestone with the manufacture of its one-millionth battery cell at its advanced facility in Windsor, Canada, underscoring rapid scale-up and growing momentum in North America’s battery supply chain.

The company began commercial battery cell production in November 2025 and has been ramping up output through highly automated manufacturing processes and multi-stage quality verification systems to ensure high performance and reliability. NextStar Energy said its facility has earned ISO 14001, ISO 45001, and IATF 16949 certifications, demonstrating compliance with global standards for environmental management, workplace safety, and automotive-grade quality systems.

NextStar Energy has onboarded more than 1,300 direct employees and has received over CAD 5 billion in investment, highlighting its role as a key pillar in Canada’s emerging electric vehicle (EV) and energy storage manufacturing ecosystem.

Brett Hillock, Chief Operating Officer of NextStar Energy, credited employees for the achievement, stating that the milestone reflects the team’s discipline, technical expertise, and commitment to manufacturing excellence.

LG Energy Solution recently announced plans to acquire full ownership of NextStar Energy, while Stellantis will remain a major customer. Under the new ownership structure, the company aims to leverage LG Energy Solution’s global technological expertise and expand its customer base, including supplying battery cells for energy storage systems (ESS).

NextStar Energy also confirmed that production of ESS battery cells will accelerate through 2026, reinforcing Canada’s growing position as a key hub for global energy storage innovation and advanced battery manufacturing.
