Kinetic Watts & Volts Ltd. (KWV), the electric vehicle arm of the Kinetic Group, has been approved to receive incentive benefits worth approximately ₹42 crore under the Government of Maharashtra’s Electric Vehicle Policy, to be disbursed in a phased manner over a period of 10 years.
The incentive is part of the state government’s comprehensive EV policy framework aimed at positioning Maharashtra as a leading electric vehicle manufacturing hub. The policy integrates capital-linked incentives, buyer subsidies, tax and fee exemptions, and support for component manufacturing to strengthen domestic EV adoption and build local supply-chain capabilities.
The benefits have been awarded to Kinetic Watts & Volts, a subsidiary of Kinetic Engineering Limited, which recently entered the electric two-wheeler market with the launch of the Kinetic DX EV scooter. The model marks the return of the iconic Kinetic DX brand, which transformed personal mobility in India nearly four decades ago.
KWV has designed the Kinetic DX EV from the ground up and localised nearly 99 per cent of its components, with production based in Ahilyanagar, Maharashtra. The high level of localisation was a key factor in qualifying for the state incentive scheme, aligning with India’s “Atmanirbhar Bharat” manufacturing initiative.
The incentive entitlement also complements Kinetic Group’s recent investments in advanced EV manufacturing infrastructure. The company has deployed capital to establish modern production lines and component facilities in Maharashtra to localise critical subsystems, improve quality control, and reduce supply-chain dependencies.
Ajinkya Firodia, Vice Chairman and Managing Director, Kinetic Watts & Volts Ltd., said the Maharashtra EV Policy is a progressive step toward building a strong domestic EV ecosystem. He noted that the incentive, linked to an investment of around ₹70 crore, supports KWV’s robotics-led manufacturing strategy and in-house battery assembly plans, which will help scale production and deliver safe and affordable electric mobility solutions for Indian families.
The Kinetic DX EV features several first-in-segment patented “EASY” features, including Easy Charge™, Easy FLIP™, and Easy Key™, along with a metal body and 37-litre under-seat storage. KWV has started sales and service operations in Pune, Mumbai, Vadodara, and Surat, with plans for a national rollout.
Subsidy-backed investments will be primarily deployed at KWV’s manufacturing campuses in Maharashtra to expand production of the Kinetic DX EV range, battery assembly operations, and robotics-enabled chassis and sub-assembly lines.
