Ashok Leyland, the Indian flagship company of the Hinduja Group and a global leader in commercial and defence mobility solutions, has signed a landmark Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with PT Pindad, Indonesia’s premier state-owned defence and industrial equipment manufacturer. The agreement marks a significant step in strengthening bilateral cooperation between India and Indonesia in the areas of sustainable mobility and advanced defence technologies.

The MoU was signed at PT Pindad’s headquarters in Bandung and focuses on the joint development and manufacturing of electric buses and defence vehicles tailored to Indonesia’s evolving mobility and national security requirements. The collaboration aims to combine Ashok Leyland’s global expertise in commercial electric vehicle platforms and defence mobility with PT Pindad’s strong engineering capabilities, local manufacturing strength, and deep-rooted role in Indonesia’s defence ecosystem.

The agreement was formalised in the presence of Prof. Sigit P. Santosa, Chief Executive Officer of PT Pindad; Mr. Amandeep Singh, President – International Operations, Defence, LCV and PSB at Ashok Leyland; and Lord Tariq, Advisor to the Board, Hinduja Auto.

Indonesia’s accelerated push towards sustainable transportation, electric vehicle adoption, and modernised defence platforms aligns closely with the objectives of this partnership. Under the MoU, both companies will collaborate on product development that supports energy-efficient mobility solutions while strengthening locally produced defence capabilities.

Commenting on the partnership, Mr. Amandeep Singh said that Ashok Leyland has a long-standing legacy of delivering reliable commercial and defence mobility solutions across global markets. He highlighted that Switch Mobility, Ashok Leyland’s electric vehicle subsidiary, has developed a wide range of electric buses with global appeal, and the partnership with PT Pindad will enable the development of products specifically suited to Indonesia’s terrain, infrastructure, and operational needs.

The collaboration is expected to play a crucial role in advancing Indonesia’s clean mobility ambitions while reinforcing its defence manufacturing ecosystem through localised and future-ready vehicle solutions.
