Hyundai Motor Company has announced its 2025 global retail sales results, reporting total worldwide sales of 4,108,605 vehicles, a 2% increase compared to 2024, despite what it described as a challenging global market environment.
Hyundai said its performance was supported by strong results in key regions, especially North America, alongside continued electrification growth and record-breaking momentum from its luxury brand Genesis.
Electrified Sales Up 27%, Hybrids Lead Growth
Hyundai’s electrified vehicle sales approached one million units globally in 2025, highlighting the company’s multi-powertrain strategy.
According to the company:
- Total electrified vehicle sales (EV, HEV, PHEV, FCEV): 932,123 units (+27%)
- Hybrid (HEV): 611,783 units (+32%)
- Battery electric vehicles (EV): 269,169 units (+17%)
- Plug-in hybrid (PHEV): 44,124 units (+21%)
- Fuel cell (FCEV): 7,047 units (+58%)
Electrified vehicles accounted for around 27% of Hyundai’s total global sales mix.
Hyundai President and CEO José Muñoz credited global teams for maintaining growth despite volatility, regulatory uncertainty, and intense competition, saying the company’s increase was driven by record performances in North America and steady momentum in other markets.
North America Becomes Hyundai’s Strongest Region
Hyundai reported that North America delivered its strongest regional performance, with retail sales reaching 1,192,919 units, an 8% year-over-year rise.
In the United States, Hyundai recorded total sales of 984,017 vehicles, also up 8%, marking the company’s third consecutive annual record. Hyundai said models including Elantra, Tucson, Santa Fe, Palisade, IONIQ 5, and Venue achieved annual sales records.
In Canada, Hyundai brand sales reached 154,405 units (+11%), with hybrid sales rising 77% year-over-year. Mexico contributed 54,497 units (+2%), with hybrid sales up 27%.
Hyundai noted that hybrid sales surged 47% in North America to 217,061 units, while electrified vehicle sales totaled 308,376 units, representing 26% of the region’s retail mix.
Growth Across MEA, Central & South America, and Australia
Hyundai also highlighted growth in several emerging and high-momentum regions:
- Central & South America: 321,338 units (+3%), with hybrid sales up 188%
- Middle East & Africa: 317,270 units (+5%), with hybrid sales up 61%
- Asia Pacific: 193,454 units, with hybrid sales up 61%
Europe Holds Steady as Electrification Accelerates
In Europe, Hyundai sold 603,782 units, remaining flat year-over-year as the region faced regulatory shifts and changing demand.
However, electrified growth was strong:
- EV sales: 112,266 units (+49%)
- PHEV sales: 35,833 units (+39%)
- HEV sales: 121,472 units (+10%)
Hyundai said electrified vehicles now make up nearly two-thirds of its European sales mix.
India Sales Cross 570,000 as EV Growth Surges
Hyundai reported 574,536 units sold in India, reinforcing its strong position in the market. EV sales in India grew sharply, increasing more than 750% year-over-year to 7,661 units.
The company also announced plans to launch 26 new vehicles in India over the next four years, while expanding local development and using India as a strategic export hub. Hyundai said the upcoming Pune plant will strengthen its ability to serve the market.
China Faces Pressure as Hyundai Restructures Strategy
Hyundai’s China joint venture Beijing Hyundai Motor Company (BHMC) recorded 125,726 retail units. Hyundai said it is transforming its China business through differentiated products, operational efficiency improvements, and export expansion.
Korea Sees Stability and Strong Electrification Gains
In its home market Korea, Hyundai posted domestic retail sales of 712,954 units (+1%).
Electrified growth included:
- EV sales: 55,489 units (+22%)
- Hybrid sales: 187,560 units (+21%)
- FCEV sales: 6,809 units (+78%)
Genesis Achieves Best-Ever Global Performance
Hyundai’s luxury brand Genesis delivered its strongest year on record with 221,482 global retail units, including record performance in the United States.
Genesis Motor America sold 82,331 vehicles (+10%), with:
- GV70: 33,876 units (+26%)
- GV80: 23,799 units (+4%)
- GV80 Coupe: up 166% in its second year
Genesis remains on track for a 2030 target of 350,000 units annually, including the launch of hybrid models beginning in 2026.
Hyundai Confirms 2030 Targets
Hyundai reaffirmed its long-term strategic goals for 2030:
- 5.55 million global vehicle sales
- 3.3 million electrified vehicles (60% of sales)
- 8–9% operating profit margin
- More than 18 hybrid models, supported by the next-generation TMED-II system
- Genesis hybrids launching in 2026
- Extended Range EVs (EREVs) launching in 2027 with 600+ miles of combined range
