Hyundai has unveiled the STARIA Camper Concept at the CMT (Caravan, Motor und Touristik) trade fair in Stuttgart, offering a bold new vision of electric, off-grid travel tailored to the European market. The concept builds on the recent world premiere of STARIA Electric and previews how Hyundai’s futuristic MPV could evolve into a premium, fully electric camper.

Developed from the latest STARIA people carrier, the STARIA Camper Concept features refreshed design elements, an upgraded interior, improved driving dynamics, and enhanced technologies. If approved for production, the camper would be based on STARIA Electric, underlining Hyundai’s commitment to expanding electric mobility into new lifestyle segments.

Responding to Europe’s Changing Travel Trends

Hyundai’s exploration of an electric camper comes at a time when demand for zero-emission mobility and experiential travel is accelerating across Europe. Customers increasingly seek vehicles that combine everyday usability with the freedom to travel independently and comfortably.

By presenting the concept at CMT, Hyundai is actively engaging with camping and adventure enthusiasts, inviting visitors to share their feedback via an online survey. The insights gathered during the show will help determine customer interest and guide the potential development of a production model.

Smart Design for Comfort and Usability

At the heart of the STARIA Camper Concept is a fully integrated, power-operated pop-up roof. Designed to preserve the vehicle’s aerodynamic efficiency, the roof creates a brighter and more spacious living area when parked, while minimizing wind noise during driving. Finished in body-coloured materials, it can be raised or lowered at the touch of a button.

Inside, the cabin is designed to balance comfort, flexibility, and privacy. Two electrically rotating captain’s chairs at the front can swivel 180 degrees to create a lounge-like social space. At the rear, seats fold flat electronically to form a sleeping area for two, transforming the interior in seconds. Electronically adjustable smart glass in the rear cabin allows occupants to instantly control transparency and shading, while improving UV, thermal, and acoustic insulation.

Built for Off-Grid Independence

For travelers seeking greater autonomy, the STARIA Camper Concept integrates a 520-watt lightweight solar panel into the pop-up roof. Under average conditions, the system can generate up to 2.6 kWh of electricity per day, supporting extended off-grid stays. The solar energy can help power onboard features such as a 36-litre refrigerator, a portable shower, and the cabin climate system, enhancing self-sufficiency beyond traditional campsites.

Electric Performance as a Foundation

A potential production version would be underpinned by STARIA Electric’s advanced 800-volt architecture, already proven in Hyundai’s IONIQ electric models. This system enables DC fast charging from 10 to 80 percent in around 20 minutes under optimal conditions. The 160 kW (218 PS) front-wheel-drive powertrain delivers smooth, quiet performance, while suspension enhancements and additional sound-absorbing materials contribute to a refined and comfortable ride.

With an estimated WLTP driving range of up to 400 kilometres, STARIA Electric provides a strong foundation for a premium electric camper capable of long, relaxed journeys.

The STARIA Camper Concept will remain on display and under evaluation throughout the 2026 CMT in Stuttgart (17–25 January). Visitors are encouraged to share their impressions directly with Hyundai. Should the concept receive approval for production, further details will be announced at a later date.

With the STARIA Camper Concept, Hyundai signals its ambition to combine sustainable mobility with the freedom of modern travel—bringing electric innovation to the heart of the European adventure lifestyle.
