BMW M GmbH has continued its extraordinary growth trajectory, recording its 14th consecutive year of all-time high sales in 2025 and strengthening its leadership position in the global high-performance automobile segment.
The performance division of BMW Group delivered 213,457 vehicles worldwide, marking a 3 percent increase over 2024 and securing its seventh straight year as the top-selling brand among direct competitors. Nearly one in every ten BMW vehicles sold globally last year carried the M badge, pushing the brand’s sales share to a record 9.8 percent.
BMW M CEO Franciscus van Meel said the achievement validates the company’s multi-powertrain strategy. “We will continue to offer performance and high-performance vehicles across the entire BMW model range – with fully electric, partly electric and combustion-engine drivetrains,” he stated.
M5 and M5 Touring drive high-performance growth
BMW said its executive performance models played a decisive role in the record year. The new BMW M5 Sedan and M5 Touring, launched with a plug-in hybrid M HYBRID system producing 727 hp and 1,000 Nm of torque, recorded strong demand in their first full year on sale.
The M5 Touring also won the prestigious “Golden Steering Wheel” award, outperforming rivals in driving dynamics, efficiency and value for money, according to the jury.
BMW M2 leads high-performance sales
Among pure high-performance vehicles, the BMW M2 Coupé emerged as the brand’s best-selling model of 2025. The lineup also includes the track-focused M2 CS, which recently set a new Nürburgring lap record of 7:25.5 minutes in the compact car category.
The BMW M3 family remained another major contributor, with strong demand for sedan and touring variants, including the newly launched M3 CS Touring, helping BMW M sell nearly 71,500 high-performance vehicles during the year.
BMW X3 M50 becomes top-selling M model
In the performance segment, the BMW X3 M50 claimed the top spot as BMW M GmbH’s overall best-selling vehicle in 2025, overtaking the electric BMW i4 M60. The model combines a turbocharged engine with 48-volt mild-hybrid technology, producing close to 400 hp.
Strong global demand
The United States remained BMW M’s largest market with over 72,000 units sold, followed by strong performances in Canada, Germany, the UK, South Korea and South Africa. China delivered the brand’s biggest absolute sales growth, while Switzerland recorded the highest penetration, with nearly one in four BMW vehicles sold being an M model.
Motorsport success reinforces brand image
BMW M’s dominance extended beyond road cars. In 2025, BMW M Motorsport vehicles achieved over 180 race victories worldwide, including major wins at the Nürburgring 24 Hours, Bathurst 12 Hour, Suzuka 1000 km, and multiple GT championships. The company also announced the upcoming debut of the BMW M2 Racing as a new entry-level customer racing model for the 2026 season.
BMW M Vice President Sylvia Neubauer said the brand’s technology-open strategy would continue to shape future products, including upcoming models based on BMW’s Neue Klasse platform.
“With performance independent of powertrain type, customers will always find what they are looking for at BMW M,” she said.
