Volvo Cars has announced the all-new, fully electric Volvo EX60, claiming a best-in-class driving range of up to 810 kilometres on a single charge, alongside charging speeds comparable to a short fuel-and-coffee stop. The electric SUV is positioned as a major step forward in Volvo’s transition to fully electric mobility.

According to Volvo Cars, the EX60 is capable of adding up to 340 km of range in just 10 minutes when connected to a 400 kW fast charger, making it the fastest-charging electric vehicle the company has produced to date. The model also comes with a 10-year battery warranty, underlining Volvo’s confidence in its new battery technology.

Calling the EX60 a “gamechanger,” Anders Bell, Chief Technology Officer at Volvo Cars, said the SUV directly addresses the biggest concerns holding customers back from switching to electric vehicles—range anxiety and charging time. “With our new electric vehicle architecture, we deliver class-leading range and fast charging speeds, marking the end of range anxiety,” Bell said.

At the heart of the EX60 is SPA3, Volvo Cars’ most advanced electric vehicle architecture so far. The platform enables higher energy efficiency across systems and allows the battery to be integrated directly into the vehicle’s structure using cell-to-body technology, reducing weight while improving performance and range. Volvo has also developed its electric motors in-house, further enhancing efficiency.

The EX60 is the first Volvo model to use mega casting technology, replacing hundreds of smaller components with a single high-precision cast part in the manufacturing process. This innovation significantly cuts vehicle weight, contributing to the extended driving range.

Fast-charging capability is supported by Volvo’s new 800-volt electrical system and proprietary software, which optimises energy flow into the battery while minimising heat generation. Additionally, intelligent charging algorithms developed by Breathe Battery Technologies, a Volvo portfolio company, allow the battery to operate within its optimal range across different weather conditions.

With fewer moving parts compared to conventional vehicles, the EX60 also requires less frequent servicing, reinforcing Volvo’s claim of a “no-compromise” electric SUV.
