SAIC Motor, China’s largest automaker, reported record vehicle sales in 2025, underscoring the success of its reform-led transformation, strong electric vehicle momentum, and expanding global footprint.
The company sold 4.507 million vehicles in 2025, marking a 12.3 per cent year-on-year increase, while terminal retail sales reached 4.67 million units, reinforcing SAIC Motor’s leading position in China’s automotive market. The strong performance was driven by accelerated innovation in intelligent electric technologies and a growing contribution from self-owned brands.
Self-Owned Brands Lead Growth
Sales of SAIC Motor’s self-owned brands—including ROEWE, MG, IM, MAXUS, Wuling and Baojun—rose 21.6 per cent year-on-year to 2.928 million units. These brands accounted for 65 per cent of total vehicle sales, up five percentage points from 2024, highlighting their central role in the company’s innovation-driven strategy.
The automaker said integrated management of its passenger and commercial vehicle businesses improved operational efficiency, enabling better alignment of research and development, production, and marketing with evolving customer needs.
Joint Ventures and New EV Platforms
SAIC Motor’s joint venture brands also made significant progress in 2025. SAIC-GM’s Buick introduced its new energy sub-brand Electra and unveiled the “Xiao Yao” Super Flexible Architecture, capable of supporting multiple vehicle body styles and electrified powertrains, including battery electric, plug-in hybrid, and range-extended electric systems.
Meanwhile, SAIC Audi launched its first mass-produced model, the Audi E5 Sportback, combining Audi’s design heritage with advanced Chinese intelligent electric technology.
Record NEV Sales and Technology Breakthroughs
SAIC Motor’s new energy vehicle (NEV) sales reached a record 1.643 million units in 2025, up 33.1 per cent year-on-year, placing the company among the global leaders in electrification.
The company highlighted advances in solid-state and semi-solid batteries, digital chassis technology, super hybrid systems, range extenders, and end-to-end intelligent driving models. Notable models included the MG4 semi-solid battery version, the ROEWE M7 DMH hybrid, and the IM LS9, which offers a class-leading driving range exceeding 1,500 km.
Partnerships Power Intelligent Mobility
SAIC Motor continued to deepen cross-industry collaborations with partners such as Huawei, OPPO, Momenta, Horizon Robotics, and Doubao, building a broader intelligent mobility ecosystem. The newly launched SHANGJIE brand, developed with Huawei, achieved monthly sales of over 10,000 units, while advanced phone-car connectivity and AI-driven cockpit systems enhanced user experience across brands.
Overseas Growth Remains Strong
Under its Overseas Strategy 3.0 (Glocal Strategy), SAIC Motor recorded overseas sales of 1.071 million units in 2025, up 3.1 per cent year-on-year. MG sales in Europe surpassed 300,000 units, while India and Thailand also posted double-digit growth. SAIC Motor’s products are now present in over 170 countries and regions, with cumulative overseas sales exceeding 6 million units.
Outlook for 2026
Looking ahead, SAIC Motor said it will continue to deepen reforms in intelligent and electric vehicle development in 2026, aiming to sustain growth and pursue high-quality, technology-driven expansion in global markets.
