Hyundai Motor Company has announced that the all-new Hyundai NEXO has achieved the top five-star safety rating from Euro NCAP, Europe’s most trusted independent vehicle safety assessment body. The hydrogen fuel cell SUV delivered outstanding results across all four safety categories, reinforcing Hyundai’s leadership in advanced zero-emission mobility and cutting-edge safety technologies.
The NEXO’s latest achievement follows the five-star Euro NCAP ratings of the IONIQ 5, IONIQ 6 and the recently launched IONIQ 9, further solidifying Hyundai’s strong safety record across its electric and electrified vehicle portfolio.
Top Scores Across All Four Euro NCAP Categories
Euro NCAP evaluates new vehicles based on:
- Adult occupant protection
- Child occupant protection
- Vulnerable road user safety
- Safety assistance technologies
The new Hyundai NEXO scored:
- 90% in adult occupant protection
- 85% in child occupant protection
- Strong and consistent performance in pedestrian/cyclist safety and safety assistance systems
These results underscore Hyundai’s commitment to integrating highly advanced crash protection structures and state-of-the-art driver-assist technologies into its zero-emission lineup.
A Legacy of Safety Innovation
This recognition continues Hyundai’s pioneering history in hydrogen vehicle safety. The previous-generation NEXO, the first fuel cell vehicle tested by Euro NCAP in 2018, also received a five-star rating. Hyundai says the repeated success demonstrates its ongoing mission to push boundaries in vehicle safety, clean mobility, and intelligent technology.
Hyundai emphasized that NEXO’s strong performance is the result of continuous engineering improvements and a long-standing focus on protecting not just vehicle occupants but all road users.
Part of Hyundai’s Expanding Zero-Emission Vision
The NEXO is a flagship model in Hyundai’s hydrogen roadmap and plays a key role alongside its IONIQ EV lineup. With zero tailpipe emissions—releasing only water vapor—the fuel cell SUV is positioned as a next-generation solution for sustainable mobility.
The achievement also follows Hyundai’s broader EV advancements, including:
- New V2X (Vehicle-to-Everything) initiatives
- Expanded connected services via the latest myHyundai app
- Recent EV concept unveilings like the CRATER Concept
