Volvo Trucks has expanded its electric portfolio with the launch of a new 14-tonne Volvo FL Electric, designed specifically for urban transportation. The new variant introduces a fresh battery configuration and lower entry-level weight category, making it a highly adaptable option for city logistics and last-mile delivery operations.

The Volvo FL Electric has been one of the company’s earliest all-electric offerings and remains popular among transport operators for its compact dimensions, low noise levels, and zero tailpipe emissions—qualities well-suited for dense urban environments.

According to Jan Hjelmgren, Head of Product Management at Volvo Trucks, the new version helps customers optimize total cost of ownership by allowing them to choose only the battery capacity needed for daily operations. “This is a perfect inner-city workhorse with no tailpipe emissions,” he said, emphasizing productivity and payload efficiency.

The 14-tonne FL Electric is available in multiple wheelbases, axle layouts, and battery combinations, enabling customers to tailor trucks to their operational requirements. The redesigned battery placement ensures seamless integration with body-building equipment, while a narrower vehicle width of 2.4 meters enhances maneuverability on tight city roads.

Volvo’s new battery units are compatible across several models—from the 14-tonne and 16-tonne FL Electric to the FE Electric range with GCW up to 26 tonnes. Volvo FL and FE Electric trucks, introduced globally in 2019, are already operating across Europe, the Middle East, Africa, Asia, and Australia.

With eight battery-electric trucks now in production, Volvo has crossed 5,000 global EV truck sales, reinforcing its position in the race toward cleaner transportation.
