The central government has disbursed ₹1,634.62 crore in subsidies under the PM E-DRIVE Scheme as of November 23, 2025, Minister of State for Heavy Industries Bhupathiraju Srinivasa Varma informed the Lok Sabha in a written reply on Tuesday.
An allocation of ₹500 crore has been earmarked for deploying e-ambulances under the scheme. The Ministry has completed stakeholder consultations and is finalising guidelines for the rollout. The scheme has been extended until March 31, 2028 for e-ambulances and other segments, while the deadline for e-two-wheelers and e-three-wheelers remains March 31, 2026.
In terms of charging infrastructure, the PM E-DRIVE Scheme has set aside ₹2,000 crore for establishing public electric vehicle charging stations (EVPCI). However, no grants have been released so far for this component, though two Oil Marketing Companies have submitted proposals expressing interest in setting up charging points.
The scheme is also supporting electric public transport, with 1,500 e-buses allocated to Mumbai and 2,800 to Delhi. Additionally, Pune has been sanctioned 1,000 e-buses under the programme.
To enhance utilisation and accessibility of charging facilities, the Ministry has issued detailed guidelines for EV charging infrastructure and circulated them to all State Governments and Union Territories.
The Minister noted that work is underway across multiple verticals of the scheme to strengthen India’s electric mobility ecosystem in a phased manner.
