Servotech Renewable Power System Ltd., an Indian manufacturer of electric vehicle (EV) chargers and a key player in renewable energy solutions, has received a patent from the Indian Patent Office for a technology titled “System and Method for Charging an Electric Vehicle.” This innovation addresses a major compatibility challenge in India’s growing EV charging ecosystem.

The patented technology centers on a smart converter device that allows GB/T-based electric vehicles to charge using CCS2 DC fast chargers. This development is particularly significant for India, where the charging infrastructure is rapidly standardizing on the CCS2 format. Many existing vehicles, including older commercial fleets and buses, still rely on the GB/T standard, which has historically caused fragmentation in the charging network and led to underutilization of chargers.

Servotech’s system acts as a bridge between the two standards. When connected to a CCS2 charger, the device intelligently converts the charging protocol and manages power delivery, enabling GB/T vehicles to charge safely, quickly, and efficiently. This ensures that owners of older GB/T-enabled vehicles can benefit from the expanding CCS2 infrastructure. Additionally, the technology enhances the utilization of existing charging stations, allowing operators to achieve better returns on investment by serving a wider range of vehicles.

The company confirmed that the system has undergone successful trials. These trials included GB/T-enabled EV buses and commercial electric cabs, where the device performed reliably under real-world conditions. Following the positive outcomes, Servotech is exploring wider deployment opportunities, including collaboration with fleet operators, integration into public transport networks, and installation at commercial charging hubs where vehicles with different standards operate.

Arun Handa, Chief Technical Officer of Servotech, described the patent award as a “proud moment” for the company. He highlighted that the invention stems from Servotech’s commitment to solving practical industry challenges with scalable solutions. Handa expressed confidence that the technology would play a key role in addressing India’s charging compatibility gaps, helping accelerate the transition toward a unified and efficient EV ecosystem. He also emphasized the company’s continued investment in next-generation charging solutions as part of its mission to build a smarter and more inclusive electric mobility future for the country.

This innovation marks a significant step toward resolving critical compatibility challenges, optimizing infrastructure use, and promoting a more seamless and accessible EV charging experience across India.
