Musashi India, the wholly owned subsidiary of Japan-based Musashi Seimitsu Industries and one of India’s largest manufacturers of two-wheeler and four-wheeler transmission components, has announced the completion of Phase 2 of its Bengaluru facility expansion. The upgraded plant is set to become fully operational by December 2025, establishing a new benchmark in advanced manufacturing and green mobility infrastructure.
Spread across 32,000 square meters, including an additional 11,000 square meters added in this expansion, the facility now integrates new capabilities in forging, machining, and heat treatment. With these enhancements, annual production capacity has risen from 4 million to 6.5 million transmission sets for scooters and motorcycles. The expansion is expected to nearly double the plant’s annual output value from ₹5.5 billion to ₹10 billion.
Strengthening India’s EV and ICE Supply Chain
The expanded plant will support Musashi India’s long-term strategy to deepen its presence across both internal combustion engine (ICE) and electric vehicle (EV) markets. The facility will cater to a wide product mix, including:
- 100–750cc motorcycle components
- 100–125cc scooter transmissions
- E-axles for two-wheelers and three-wheelers
With its enhanced capabilities, the Bengaluru plant will serve not only domestic OEMs but also global export markets, reinforcing India’s role in the global EV supply chain.
High-Tech Automation and Innovation Hub
Equipped with cutting-edge technologies such as gear grinding machines, automated gear checking, camera-based inspection, and robotic handling systems, the facility significantly improves accuracy and efficiency. It will also function as a prototype and testing hub for both ICE and EV driveline components, underscoring Musashi’s focus on innovation and engineering excellence.
Sustainability at the Core of Expansion
Staying aligned with Musashi’s global ESG targets, the facility features major clean-energy upgrades. A 2.16 million kWh rooftop solar plant, natural ventilation systems, and emission-control technologies help maintain an impressive 96% green energy usage, powered by hydro, wind, rooftop solar, and captive renewable sources. These initiatives support Musashi’s global commitment to achieving carbon neutrality by 2038.
“This facility embodies our ‘Go Far Beyond’ aim, combining precision engineering, advanced automation, and sustainability to create a new benchmark in manufacturing excellence,” said Naoya Nishimura, CEO, Musashi Auto Parts India and Africa Region. He added that the Bengaluru plant—built in just 18 months—is now the largest integrated manufacturing facility under one roof within the Musashi Group.
