In a major boost to the city’s clean mobility mission, Relux Electric Private Limited, one of India’s leading EV charging infrastructure providers, has partnered with the Greater Chennai Corporation (GCC) to set up nine electric vehicle charging stations across key public locations in Chennai. This development comes on the heels of Relux Electric’s recent collaboration with Tamil Nadu Generation and Electrical Corporation Limited (TNGECL) to install 500 EV charging stations statewide.
According to officials, the first phase of the project aims to make EV charging easily accessible to the public by setting up stations in high-footfall and convenient urban spaces. The initiative is expected to strengthen Chennai’s transition toward environmentally friendly mobility solutions.
A senior GCC official said the partnership highlights the Corporation’s commitment to sustainable development. “Through this collaboration with Relux Electric and TNGECL, we seek to advance the city’s shift toward cleaner and energy-efficient mobility. By placing reliable charging stations in prominent public spaces, we aim to encourage greater adoption of electric vehicles,” the official stated.
The nine EV charging stations will be established at Marina Beach Parking, Besant Nagar Beach Parking, Nageswara Rao Park (Mylapore), Bougainvillea Park (Anna Nagar), Semmozhi Poonga (Teynampet), Corporation Playground Parking (T. Nagar), Somasundaram Park (T. Nagar), Mangal Lake Park (Ambattur), and Ashtalakshmi Temple Parking (Besant Nagar).
Speaking about the initiative, Dr. Karthikeyan S., Managing Director of Relux Electric, said, “We are proud to be part of Chennai’s shift towards sustainable urban mobility. Our advanced EV charging infrastructure is designed to offer fast, reliable, and user-friendly experiences that meet global standards. With this partnership, we hope to build public confidence in electric vehicles and contribute to reducing Chennai’s carbon footprint.”
All nine stations are expected to become operational before December 2025. Each unit will be spread across approximately 500 sq. ft. and equipped to charge two four-wheelers and three two-wheelers simultaneously. The facilities will also include fast-charging options for cars.
The initiative forms part of Tamil Nadu’s broader vision of expanding EV adoption, lowering carbon emissions, and building a sustainable transportation ecosystem across the state.
