Suzuki Motor Corporation has announced that its Indian subsidiary, Maruti Suzuki India Limited, has achieved a landmark 30 million cumulative domestic sales marking a monumental chapter in India’s automotive history.
This achievement comes 42 years after the rollout of the first Maruti 800 in December 1983, symbolizing Suzuki’s enduring partnership with India and its deep connection with millions of Indian families. With this milestone, India becomes the second country after Japan to record cumulative Suzuki automobile sales exceeding 30 million units.
The journey began in 1982, when Suzuki signed a joint venture agreement with the Government of India and Maruti Udyog Limited (the predecessor of Maruti Suzuki). Since then, the company has introduced a diverse lineup of vehicles that have shaped Indian mobility — from the iconic Maruti 800 that motorized the nation, to modern favorites such as the Alto, WagonR, Swift, Dzire, and Brezza.
In recent years, Maruti Suzuki has strengthened its SUV portfolio with the Grand Vitara, Fronx, and the newly launched Victoris (September 2025), catering to India’s growing preference for utility and lifestyle vehicles.
At present, Maruti Suzuki offers 19 models across its portfolio, including hybrid and CNG-powered cars that contribute to lowering CO₂ emissions. The brand’s commitment to sustainable mobility took a major leap with the announcement of its first battery electric vehicle (BEV), the e-VITARA, in November 2024. Manufactured at the Gujarat plant, the e-VITARA will serve as India’s BEV manufacturing hub, with exports planned to over 100 countries. The first export batch left for Europe in August 2025.
Speaking on the milestone, Suzuki stated that the company remains committed to realizing a carbon-neutral society through a multi-pathway approach, combining hybrid, CNG, and electric technologies. As India’s leading passenger vehicle manufacturer, Maruti Suzuki aims to grow alongside the nation, offering cars that are “closely connected with people’s lives.”
