In a move set to strengthen India’s automotive manufacturing ecosystem, Sharda Motor Industries Ltd. (SMIL) has signed a Technology Licence Agreement (TLA) with Donghee Industries Co. Ltd., Republic of Korea, to locally produce advanced suspension systems for the next generation of passenger vehicles in India.
Under this agreement, Donghee will transfer design blueprints, process know-how, and validation protocols to Sharda Motor, enabling local production of Control Arms, Torsion Beams, and Sub-frames. The collaboration aims to fill a critical technology gap in India’s rapidly evolving SUV, electric, and premium car segments, which are witnessing a surge in demand for high-performance, lightweight suspension solutions.
The partnership enhances SMIL’s product portfolio with lightweight engineering and structural integrity solutions, supporting its long-term strategy to deliver advanced mobility technologies to Indian and global original equipment manufacturers (OEMs).
Donghee, known for supplying major global automakers such as Hyundai, Kia, Volkswagen, and Stellantis, brings decades of expertise in chassis and suspension systems. Sharda Motor, leveraging its India-wide manufacturing presence and deep OEM relationships, will focus on localized production suited to Indian road and driving conditions.
This partnership enables SMIL to enhance its suspension product portfolio by strengthening technology expertise and adding significant content per vehicle, said Mr. Aashim Relan, Group CEO, Sharda Motor Industries Ltd. “Donghee’s next-generation engineering capabilities, combined with our manufacturing scale and OEM relationships, empower us to deliver global-quality suspension solutions for the Indian market.
Mr. Joo-Eun Park, CEO of Donghee Industries Co. Ltd., added, “We are delighted to partner with Sharda Motor Industries, a credible player with strong OEM connections in one of the world’s fastest-growing automotive markets. This collaboration aligns with our global strategy to expand advanced suspension technologies for Indian and international OEMs.
The alliance signifies a major step toward next-generation localization of suspension systems, supporting India’s shift toward electric and premium mobility solutions while advancing domestic technological capabilities.
