BMW Electrifies Japan Mobility Show 2025 with Neue Klasse iX3, Hydrogen Vision, and MINI Paul Smith Edition

The BMW Group made a commanding presence at the Japan Mobility Show 2025, unveiling a future-focused lineup that blends cutting-edge electric, hydrogen, and performance technologies. The showcase, spanning 1,100 square metres at Tokyo Big Sight, featured the Asian premiere of the BMW iX3, the first new model from BMW’s transformative Neue Klasse platform, alongside the world premiere of the MINI Paul Smith Edition and the Japan debut of the BMW M2 CS.

At the heart of BMW’s exhibit was the BMW iX3, symbolizing a new era of electrification and digital innovation. Built on the Neue Klasse architecture, the iX3 integrates the sixth-generation BMW eDrive system, cylindrical-cell battery technology, and bidirectional charging, allowing it to act as a mobile energy source. With a 400 kW maximum charging rate, the EV can add 372 km of range in just ten minutes. Production for the Japanese market begins in March 2026, with sales scheduled for the second half of the year.

BMW also confirmed the BMW iX5 Hydrogen for global rollout in 2028, marking its commitment to a diverse mobility mix. Developed in collaboration with Toyota Motor Corporation, the hydrogen SUV will feature a more compact, efficient, and powerful third-generation fuel cell system.

Adding to the brand’s allure, MINI and British designer Paul Smith continued their long-standing partnership with the debut of the MINI Paul Smith Edition, offered across the MINI Cooper 3-Door, 5-Door, and Convertible models. The special edition will feature exclusive Nottingham Green paintwork, Paul Smith’s signature stripe, and fully electric variants available globally from the launch.

Performance enthusiasts were drawn to the BMW M2 CS, which made its Japanese premiere. Powered by a 530 hp six-cylinder M TwinPower Turbo engine, the compact sports coupe sprints from 0–100 km/h in just 3.8 seconds, while lightweight carbon-fibre components and a recalibrated chassis deliver race-inspired agility.

In the realm of innovation, BMW also introduced in-car gaming via AirConsole, available in models running BMW Operating System 8.5. Titles such as UNO® Car Party!, Hot Wheels: Xtreme Overdrive™, and PAC-MAN™ Championship Edition will allow passengers to play directly using their smartphones as controllers.

The showcase also featured the BMW Concept Speedtop, a limited-run luxury “shooting brake” model blending timeless elegance with modern sportiness, and the BMW X7 Nishiki Lounge, a concept fusing Japanese craftsmanship with the brand’s luxury DNA through Kyoto-inspired materials and celestial-themed interior lighting.

With this powerful mix of design innovation, sustainable technology, and cultural collaboration, BMW reaffirmed its commitment to shaping the future of mobility in Asia — from electric and hydrogen propulsion to digital experiences that redefine driving pleasure.
