In a major milestone for global sustainable transport, Volvo Trucks announced that its fleet of electric trucks has collectively covered more than 250 million kilometers in commercial operations worldwide since 2019 — equivalent to 6,200 laps around the Earth.

The achievement underscores Volvo’s leadership in the electric truck segment, with over 5,700 electric trucks delivered across 50 countries. The shift from diesel to electric has helped avoid approximately 213,000 tonnes of CO₂ emissions, which would have otherwise required more than 78 million liters of diesel.

It’s great to see how transport companies are embracing electric trucks in their daily operations. They’re not only cutting emissions but also offering a quieter, more comfortable experience for drivers, said Roger Alm, President of Volvo Trucks. However, the transition to electric mobility is still too slow. We urgently need better market conditions to make decarbonization profitable for all transport operators, he added.

The company’s electric portfolio now includes eight models — the Volvo FL Electric, FE Electric, FM Electric, FM Low Entry, FMX Electric, FH Electric, FH Aero Electric, and VNR Electric — designed to serve varied needs such as urban logistics, waste management, regional haulage, and construction.

The top markets for Volvo’s electric trucks are Germany, the Netherlands, Norway, Sweden, and the United States. Looking ahead, Volvo plans to launch an electric heavy-duty truck in 2026 with a range of up to 600 kilometers per charge, further extending the operational scope of zero-emission freight transport.

Volvo’s decarbonization roadmap includes battery-electric, fuel-cell electric, and renewable fuel-based combustion trucks powered by biogas and hydrogen, aligning with its core values of quality, safety, and environmental care.

With production facilities in 12 countries and 2,200 service points across 130 markets, Volvo Trucks continues to lead the global transition toward sustainable freight mobility.
