has unveiled the all-new Land Cruiser FJ, marking a new chapter in the brand’s legendary off-road heritage. Scheduled for launch in mid-2026, the model blends classic Land Cruiser toughness with a modern design philosophy focused on freedom, joy, and evolving mobility needs.
First introduced in 1951 as the Toyota BJ, the Land Cruiser has sold over 12.15 million units across 190 countries, earning its place as a symbol of durability and reliability. With the addition of the FJ to its lineup — alongside the flagship 300 Series, workhorse 70 Series, and core 250 Series — Toyota aims to make the Land Cruiser accessible to a wider audience while maintaining its renowned off-road DNA.
The new Land Cruiser FJ prototype features a compact, square-cabin design for improved agility and cargo space, emphasizing a balance between ruggedness and everyday usability. Its shorter wheelbase enhances maneuverability, while advanced safety features like Toyota Safety Sense ensure secure on- and off-road driving.
While the FJ itself runs on a 2.7-liter gasoline engine, Toyota is simultaneously advancing its electrified mobility ecosystem. At the same event, the company showcased the Land Hopper, an electric personal mobility vehicle designed for off-road adventures and short-distance commuting. Compact enough to fit inside the Land Cruiser’s luggage compartment, the Land Hopper represents Toyota’s ambition to expand electric mobility beyond traditional vehicles, offering “mobility for all” — from rugged terrains to urban trails.
The Land Cruiser FJ will be showcased at the Japan Mobility Show 2025, held at Tokyo Big Sight from October 30 to November 9, where Toyota will highlight how its vehicles — both conventional and electric — contribute to a sustainable, connected, and inclusive future.
