Vietnamese electric vehicle manufacturer VinFast has officially entered the Indian market with the launch of its compact electric crossovers, VF 6 and VF 7, assembled at the company’s new facility in Thoothukudi, Tamil Nadu. With a focus on quiet performance, lower costs, and minimal maintenance, the automaker aims to redefine the electric mobility experience for Indian consumers.

The VF 6 is priced at an introductory ₹16.49 lakh, while the larger VF 7 starts at ₹20.89 lakh (ex-showroom) for the first 1,500 buyers. The models promise certified ranges of up to 468 km and 532 km respectively, offering practical options for both daily commutes and long drives.

What sets VinFast apart is its emphasis on affordability and convenience. According to PRS Legislative Research, electric four-wheelers can operate at just ₹1 per kilometre, compared with ₹4.1–₹6.4 per kilometre for petrol cars. Combined with VinFast’s three years of free charging at V-Green partner stations, owners can expect substantial savings in running costs.

Maintenance costs are also notably lower. With electric drivetrains containing roughly one-tenth the moving parts of petrol engines, VinFast claims significantly reduced service requirements. Data from the Council on Energy, Environment and Water (CEEW) supports this, indicating that EV SUVs in India cost ₹0.58 per km to maintain versus ₹0.77 for diesel, potentially saving ₹14,000 over five years.

Backing these benefits are long-term warranties—10 years or 200,000 km for the VF 7 and seven years for the VF 6—along with an expanding after-sales network across major Indian cities.

The launch underscores VinFast’s commitment to making EVs mainstream in India by targeting the mid-market segment rather than the luxury tier. “The VF 6 and VF 7 are not just about cleaner skies—they represent quieter rides, lower bills, and more time on the road, not in the repair shop,” the company stated.

As India’s EV adoption gains traction, VinFast’s entry promises to intensify competition in the compact SUV category while giving consumers a smarter, quieter, and cost-effective alternative to traditional vehicles.
