SNCF Energie, the generation arm of Octopus Energy, and global renewable energy company BayWa r.e. have signed two major Corporate Power Purchase Agreements (CPPAs) with SNCF Voyageurs, the French national railway operator. The partnership will aid France’s shift toward fossil-free public transport, with SNCF Energie supplying renewable electricity to SNCF Voyageurs from two solar farms—Greenberry and Fontenet 3—developed by BayWa r.e. and acquired through Octopus’ Sky fund (ORI SCSp).

Located on former military bases in Central and South-West France, the solar farms will generate more than 100 GWh of green electricity annually, producing around 2.5 TWh over the 25-year agreement—enough to power 15,500 TGV trips from Paris to Rennes each year. By converting previously restricted sites into clean energy hubs, BayWa r.e. and Octopus are delivering their first CPPAs of this kind in France, supporting the country’s renewable energy transition.

This initiative marks a major step toward SNCF Voyageurs’ sustainability goals. Since 2018, the company has expanded its corporate PPA program to target sourcing 20% of its electricity from CPPAs. The announcement also reflects Octopus Energy’s growing presence in France, where it manages over 500 MW of solar and wind assets and supplies green power to more than 600,000 households through its retail operations.
