The Renault-Nissan-Mitsubishi Alliance reinforced its electric mobility ambitions with a high-profile leadership visit to the Ampere Douai plant, marking a pivotal moment for the group’s European operations.

The session marked the first visit to Douai for Ivan Espinosa, CEO of Nissan, and Takao Kato, CEO of Mitsubishi Motors, as well as the inaugural Alliance Board for François Provost, the newly appointed CEO of Renault Group, alongside Alliance Chairman Jean-Dominique Senard. The meeting highlighted the Alliance’s commitment to delivering advanced electric vehicles designed for European customers.

As part of this strategy, Nissan and Mitsubishi Motors have chosen Ampere as their key partner, tapping into its competitive ecosystem and state-of-the-art production capabilities. Ampere is preparing to manufacture two upcoming fully electric models: the all-new Nissan Micra, tailored to European driving preferences, and Mitsubishi’s next-generation Eclipse Cross, the brand’s first full-electric SUV for Europe and its first vehicle to be built in France. Both models, based on Ampere’s AmpR Small and AmpR Medium platforms, are slated for commercial launch in late 2025.

The Mitsubishi Eclipse Cross will be officially revealed on September 17, while Nissan already unveiled its redesigned Micra earlier this year in May.

Ampere Douai now manufactures six fully electric models across four brands — Renault, Nissan, Mitsubishi Motors, and Alpine — showcasing the Alliance’s ability to harness shared expertise and flexible production under one roof.

By strengthening joint projects and tapping regional opportunities, the Alliance aims to accelerate the shift toward sustainable mobility, positioning Douai as a benchmark of industrial excellence in Europe.
