Volvo Cars has officially started production of its all-new fully electric ES90, a premium sedan that represents a major step in the company’s journey toward becoming a fully electrified carmaker. The rollout begins with European markets, with customer deliveries set to start later this year.

The ES90 is Volvo’s first model to feature 800-volt technology, enabling faster charging and longer driving ranges compared to earlier electric models. Developed on Volvo’s next-generation Superset tech stack and powered by core computing systems, the sedan is built to evolve through continuous over-the-air software updates.

Francesca Gamboni, Chief Industrial Operations Officer at Volvo Cars, said: “The fully electric ES90 marks a major milestone as Volvo Cars steps into a new era of safety, sustainability and human-centric technology. With production now underway, we’re reaffirming our commitment to a fully electrified future and proving our ability to innovate and meet customer demands.”

Unveiled in March 2025, the ES90 combines the elegance of a sedan, the adaptability of a fastback, and the space and ground clearance of an SUV, placing it in a unique segment of its own. Designed around Volvo’s hallmark safety innovations, the car also underscores the brand’s focus on sustainability.

Produced at Volvo’s climate-neutral Chengdu plant in China, the ES90 has one of the lowest carbon footprints of any Volvo car to date, according to the company’s Life Cycle Assessment. Availability will soon expand beyond Europe to key Asia-Pacific markets.

With the ES90, Volvo continues to align its operations with its 2040 net-zero emissions target, reinforcing its position as a leader in sustainable mobility.
