In a landmark move blending sustainability with public safety, the City of Sterling Heights has deployed the Chevrolet Blazer EV Police Pursuit Vehicle (PPV) to its patrol fleet, making it the first city in Michigan to officially put GM’s all-electric pursuit-rated SUV into service.

Developed through GM Envolve, General Motors’ commercial fleet division, the Blazer EV PPV combines the power, agility, and durability required for law enforcement with the environmental benefits of electrification. With an EPA-estimated 297 miles of range on a full charge, instant acceleration, and responsive handling, the vehicle is designed specifically for high-speed chases and rigorous police duty.

The Blazer EV PPV also holds the distinction of being the only 2025 model year EV certified as pursuit-capable by the Michigan State Police. In addition to performance, the EV promises lower maintenance costs and reduced emissions, making it a sustainable and cost-effective solution for modern policing.

For GM, this marks a continuation of nearly a century-long partnership with law enforcement. Chevrolet sedans and GMC panel trucks were first converted for police use in the 1920s, followed by purpose-built police packages in the 1950s. Over the decades, GM’s police vehicles have incorporated innovations in safety and technology – a legacy now extended into the electric era.

“Sterling Heights’ leap forward with the Blazer EV PPV demonstrates how collaboration between automakers and communities can deliver real-world progress,” GM Envolve said in a statement, emphasizing its customer-first approach, including tailored EV fleet strategies, officer training, and long-term support.

Police officers in Sterling Heights are already praising the EV’s reliability and pursuit-ready agility, reinforcing GM’s belief that the Blazer EV PPV will inspire other cities to adopt sustainable policing solutions.
