Lucid Group, Inc. anounced the closing of a $300 million strategic investment from Uber Technologies, Inc.
The investment supports the next-generation premium global robotaxi program unveiled in July. Under the partnership, Lucid’s electric vehicle technology platform will serve as the foundation for a purpose-built robotaxi, to be manufactured at Lucid’s facility in Arizona and operated exclusively on Uber’s ride-hailing platform. The funding will contribute to development costs associated with the autonomous mobility initiative.
The robotaxi is expected to debut in a major U.S. city late next year. It will integrate Lucid Gravity’s software-defined vehicle architecture, long-range performance, and redundant safety systems with the Nuro Driver™ Level 4 autonomy system and Uber’s extensive global network. Together, the companies aim to deliver a scalable, comfortable, and safe ride-hailing experience.
Uber plans to deploy 20,000 or more Lucid vehicles through the program over the next six years, marking a significant step forward in advancing shared, autonomous, and sustainable urban transportation.
