Tata Motors Limited registered total sales of 73,178 units in August 2025, marking a marginal rise from 71,693 units in August 2024. The growth was powered by strong commercial vehicle (CV) demand and record-breaking electric vehicle (EV) sales, even as passenger vehicle (PV) sales dipped slightly.
Commercial Vehicles Drive Growth
Tata Motors’ total CV sales rose 10% YoY to 29,863 units, compared to 27,207 in August 2024. Domestic CV sales stood at 27,481 units (up 6%), while international business (IB) sales surged 77% to 2,382 units.
Category-wise performance showed steady gains:
- HCV Trucks: 7,451 units, up 5%
- ILMCV Trucks: 5,711 units, up 15%
- Passenger Carriers: 3,577 units, up 5%
- SCV Cargo & Pickup: 10,742 units, up 4%
Total sales of MH&ICV (medium, heavy, and intermediate CVs), including trucks and buses, reached 14,667 units across domestic and international markets, compared to 12,708 units last year.
Passenger Vehicles See Dip, EVs Hit Record
Passenger vehicle sales stood at 43,315 units, a 3% YoY decline from 44,486 units in August 2024. Domestic PV sales were 41,001 units (down 7%), while international business jumped sharply to 2,314 units from just 344 units a year ago.
EVs emerged as the highlight, achieving highest-ever monthly sales at 8,540 units, up 44% YoY, reflecting growing consumer confidence and accelerating adoption of green mobility.
Tata Motors noted that the EV milestone underscores its commitment to sustainable transportation through its subsidiaries, Tata Motors Passenger Vehicles Limited and Tata Passenger Electric Mobility Limited.
