Maruti Suzuki India Limited has commenced exports of its first battery electric vehicle (BEV), the e VITARA, from its Gujarat facility, marking a major milestone in India’s electric mobility journey.

In August, over 2,900 units of the e VITARA were shipped from Pipavav Port, Gujarat, to 12 European nations, including the UK, Germany, France, Norway, Denmark, Switzerland, the Netherlands, Sweden, Hungary, Iceland, Austria, and Belgium.

The development follows Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to Maruti Suzuki’s Hansalpur plant on August 26, where he commemorated the start of production of the e VITARA and hailed the company as a “brand ambassador of Make in India.”

Manufactured exclusively at Maruti Suzuki’s Gujarat facility, the e VITARA is built on the all-new HEARTECT-e EV platform. The model is designed with a blend of advanced technology, strength, and performance suited for global markets.

Celebrating the achievement, Hisashi Takeuchi, MD & CEO of Maruti Suzuki India Limited, said: The start of exports of e VITARA to Europe is indeed a proud and defining moment for us. To delight customers in over 100 countries, the product has to be truly world-class in technology, design, safety, and performance. With a nimble and sharp driving experience, we are confident it will win hearts in Europe.

The e VITARA, previewed earlier at events in Milan, Italy, and the Bharat Mobility Global Expo in New Delhi, will soon be available in over 100 countries worldwide, alongside its launch in the Indian domestic market.

The milestone positions India as a global hub for EV production, aligning with Suzuki’s roadmap to expand its electric vehicle footprint internationally.
