General Motors is stepping up efforts to simplify EV charging as it transitions from the Combined Charging System (CCS1) to the North American Charging Standard (NACS), starting with the 2026 Cadillac OPTIQ and OPTIQ-V.

To bridge the gap during this transition, GM has introduced a suite of EV adapters that will allow owners of both CCS1- and NACS-equipped vehicles to access more than 250,000 charging stations across North America.

The move is part of GM’s commitment to charging standardization, ensuring flexibility for customers regardless of vehicle model or charging infrastructure. “Think of this shift like the evolution from multiple phone chargers to USB-C,” GM said in a statement, comparing the change to consumer electronics aligning around universal ports such as USB-C and HDMI.

GM’s adapters, available through the myChevrolet, myGMC, and myCadillac apps, dealerships, and accessories websites, are designed to be simple, safe, and reliable. They feature Plug-and-Charge capability, which automatically authenticates and pays for charging sessions at compatible stations.

The company emphasized that in many cases adapters won’t be necessary, particularly when charging NACS-equipped vehicles with GM’s upcoming PowerUp 2 home charger. However, for mixed infrastructure, adapters ensure seamless compatibility.

As automakers and charging networks increasingly align around the NACS standard, GM’s strategy aims to deliver broader access, greater convenience, and a smoother customer experience on the road to an all-electric future.
