Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA) has announced that the emirate now boasts a network of over 1,270 electric vehicle (EV) charging points, reinforcing its position as a regional leader in green mobility.
HE Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, MD and CEO of DEWA, revealed the milestone as part of the authority’s continued efforts to accelerate Dubai’s transition to sustainable transportation. The charging points are part of a collaborative initiative with both public and private sector partners to support the growing number of EVs in the city, which reached more than 40,600 as of mid-2025.
Al Tayer highlighted that the expansion supports Dubai’s ambition to make 50% of all vehicles on UAE roads electric or hybrid by 2050, in alignment with the Dubai Clean Energy Strategy 2050 and the Dubai Net Zero Carbon Emissions Strategy 2050.
“In line with the leadership’s vision to transform Dubai into a global model for smart urban development, we launched the EV Green Charger initiative in 2014—the first public EV charging network in the region,” said Al Tayer. “We’re enhancing this initiative with smart digital services and a licensing system to attract private sector investments in EV infrastructure.”
Regulatory Framework to Support Private Investment
DEWA has developed a comprehensive Regulatory Framework for EV Charging Infrastructure and Licensing of Independent Charge Point Operators. The two-track framework allows for both DEWA’s direct deployment of public chargers and the participation of licensed private operators.
This approach aims to meet growing demand while maintaining high standards for service and sustainability across the emirate.
Strategic Partnerships to Enhance Accessibility
In a significant move to enhance user convenience, DEWA has partnered with Parkin to install EV charging stations at key locations managed by the parking operator. DEWA’s EV Green Charger network currently includes ultra-fast, fast, public, and wall-box chargers.
EV users—whether registered or not—can charge their vehicles using the guest mode feature. Charging stations can be located via DEWA’s smart app, website, and 14 other digital platforms.
To further drive adoption and awareness, DEWA has also launched the Dubai EV Community Hub website, serving as an information gateway for EV owners, businesses, and investors in the local ecosystem.
