Tata Motors, India’s largest commercial vehicle manufacturer, has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Green Energy Mobility Solutions Pvt. Ltd. (GEMS), the electric mobility arm of Universal Bus Services (UBS), to supply 100 Magna EV intercity coaches. The agreement was formalised during Passenger Vehicle Expo 2.0 in Chennai.
The MoU signing took place in the presence of Dr. T.R.B. Rajaa, Hon’ble Minister for Industries, Government of Tamil Nadu, along with officials from the Tamil Nadu government and the All Omni Bus Owners Association (AOBOA).
The fully-electric Tata Magna EV coach, with a range of up to 300 km per charge and a 44-seater configuration, is designed for long-distance travel with features such as Electronic Braking System (EBS), Electronic Stability Control (ESC), and ergonomic seating.
Dr. T.R.B. Rajaa praised the initiative, calling it a “significant step towards greener and safer public transportation” in Tamil Nadu. UBS Managing Partner Sunil Kumar Ravindran highlighted the move as a milestone in their transition to sustainable travel, while Anand S, Vice President and Head – Commercial Passenger Vehicle Business, Tata Motors, said the Magna EV would “redefine long-distance travel in India”.
Tata Motors already leads India’s e-bus market, with over 3,600 electric buses operating across 11 cities, having clocked 34 crore kilometres with over 95% uptime.
